Since the rise of Apple as serious player in the mobile phone handset market, there have a been a series of law suites from a few companies regarding alleged intellectual property & patent violations.

Most recently it’s Motorola that are taking Apple to court. A new strategy sees rivals going to the courts and try & block the sale of Apple hardware or to block particular features.

The question is, are these tactics valid & will they be successful?

In the battle between Apple and Motorola in Germany, Apple is losing ground. Today, the Mannheim regional court agreed with an earlier (February) court decision which had banned the Cupertino company from delivering push email services to its iCloud users in Germany.

Furthermore, Apple now has to pay damages to Motorola Mobility. The amount is as yet unknown.

Motorola is fighting for every inch in the mobile market battlefield, because each victory justifies Google’s decision to acquire MMI for $12.5 billion, although as recent rumors hint, the Internet giant might offer part of Motorola Mobility for sale to Huawei….

It very much looks like a war is ensuing between Apple & Motorola with this only one of the many battles that will take place in attempt to get more of the market share, in the lucrative technology market, with each company claiming patent violations & blocking their competitors from selling their products & services.

Is it ethical? Are the boundaries being pushed? Probably considering both Microsoft & Apple have made complaints to the European commission over Motorola mobility’s abusive use of its patents to put a spanner in the works of its competitors.

For now it looks like the squabbling between these companies will continue for some time.

If you’re one of the rapidly shrinking number of people who does not have a cell phone at all or if you are considering changing the type of cell phone service you have, one of the considerations you have to make is whether to get a traditional service contract from a cellular service provider, pay as you go cell phones or prepaid cell phones.

Pay As You Go Cell Phones Or Prepaid Cell Phones?

Each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, so every person may have different ideas about which suits them best. Keep reading for a quick rundown which can help you to make the right choice for your needs.

Pay As You Go Cell Phones

Pay as you go cell phones allow users to enjoy most of the benefits of a traditional service contract, with the important difference that they are not bound to a one or two year service contract. This means that you are free to go to another cellular service provider any time you like; if you want to shop around and try out a few providers before making your decision, this may be best for you. Also you can’t rack up huge call costs. This is because you have to buy credit for your phone and once the credit has been used up, you can’t make any call or send any text messages until you top up your credit.

The only downside of pay as you go cell phones is that you may miss out on some small discounts offered to regular contract based customers, though this varies by provider, although if you find another provider offering a better deal you can just swap sim cards and use another network. Something to keep in mind though if you’re planning to do this is that most networks lock the phones to there network with this sort of deal. This kind of phone is great, especially if you have no credit history, a pay as you go plan might be a good choice; and many people have stuck with these types of service plans for years on end and are quite happy with them.
This type of phone is also ideal for those who are very light users. I know people who can put $20 or £20 of credit on there phone and make it last for several months. If you’re this type of user its a wate of money to be on a monthly contract as you won’t be using up hardly any of the quota of calls & texts you have. Why pay for something you’re not gonna use?

Prepaid Cell Phones

Prepaid cell phones have pros and cons of their own. They offer a very easy way to get cell phone service: they are available at many stores, ready to go right out of the package – in this case, the phone and service are generally sold together as one purchase, so there is no need to pick a service provider and then choose a phone. On the downside, they are also often looked at as essentially disposable phones, with consumers in some cases just discarding the phones when they decide to switch to a different provider; they are also sometimes more expensive than traditional contracts or pay as you go cell phones.

Traditional Service Contracts

Then of course there is always the option of just going ahead and getting a one or two year service contract once you have found a cellular service provider you like. Other than the fact that you are then locked into a contract with the provider, these plans are the most common, though many still prefer pay as you go cell phones. Ultimately, the decision is up to you and what best matches your needs and the way that you use your cell phone. Some people will need one type of service or another, but now that you know a little more about your options, you will be able to make the right choice.

Defy a recent Android Smart phone from the Motorola group is similar to various other touch screen smart phones available in the market. However, it has the distinct feature of being dust-proof and waterproof.

The Defy is quite small in size and weighs very little. It weighs less than 120 Gms. It has a nearly 10cm touch screen, which has a tremendous pixel layout and can display close to 16M separate colors, which gives the image a superb quality. The screen has controls which are touch sensitive. It also has accelerometer sensors for multi touch inputs and nearness.

Class twelve versions of EDGE and GPRS keep the instrument connected to appropriate networks. They also give initial access to internet with 3G coverage. A download speed of 7.2MB per sec is provided by a HSDPA connection.

An extra help in browsing in the internet has been provided with Wi-Fi connectivity allowing users getting advantage of local internet, for more reliable and faster connection.

Defy gives an extremely good camera phone also. The digital camera of 5 megapixels has very high pixel resolution and also auto focus, image stabilization and LED flash. All these features make photography simple and improve the quality of the pictures.

The most popular Android OS is the system, which is the 2.1 version used in Defy. It can be upgraded and updated. Provision of a processor of 800MHz makes Defy work lightening fast. It also acts as a good platform to customize and expand because of the access it has to Android Market.

The Defy comes with a list which is quite long and contains all the features and applications of the smart phone.

Motorola Defy with all these superior technical features and applications is also quite a robust instrument. The robustness has been built without sacrificing any of the technical features.
